Famous Fire Buffs through the years include New York Fire Surgeon Harry Archer, Boston Pops Conductor Arthur Fiedler, New York Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia and - legend has it - President George Washington.

On March 6, 1949, an arson fire damaged Cranford Hall at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. The building housed the school's theater department.



On Dec. 16, 1985, a deadly propane explosion destroyed a Rocky Mountain Natural Gas Co. building in Glenwood Springs, Colorado
Survivor Maynard Crandall, quoted by the Associated Press, said: "I'm one of the lucky ones. Some dear friends of mine, I know, didn't get out." The toll: 12 dead, more than 20 injured. On Aug. 8, 1960, fire destroyed the derelict Canyon Hotel at Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.



On Aug. 22, 1928, Denver Pumper 21 collided with a coal truck at Virginia Avenue and South Clarkson Street, killing pump driver Thomas M. Hyder, 29. T
hree firefighters were injured. The coal driver truck was also hurt, He said he didn't see or hear 21 's until he was in the intersection, according to research by Assistant Chief Gregory Taft.
