Fire Buffs promote the general welfare of the fire and rescue service and protect its heritage and history. Famous Fire Buffs through the years include New York Fire Surgeon Harry Archer, Boston Pops Conductor Arthur Fiedler, New York Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia and - legend has it - President George Washington.

SPANISH GATE - 2003

Fire struck the Spanish Gate apartments in the Denver suburb of Glendale in December 2003.

A resident trapped by flames died as she called for help. Another went to prison for starting the fire.

Glendale firefighters received aid from Denver and other cities. Denver later assumed responsibility for Glendale's fire service.
